Acoustic expertise for architectural privacy screens in a luxury residence

Customer: Cimolai Group

Country: Monaco

Application: Industry

The challenge

During the construction of a luxury seaside residence in Monaco, architectural and bespoke privacy screens were installed on the balconies to ensure residents’ privacy. Given the region’s characteristic wind exposure, the builder  was concerned that these structures would generate aerodynamic noise that could significantly disturb future occupants. Our experts assisted the Cimolai Group in checking and validating the design of the privacy screens. The aim was to limit the interaction between the wind and the structure by applying design rules that took into account all coupling phenomena.

The solution

In order to verify the design and implementation of the privacy screens, our experts visited the site to install acoustic and meteorological sensors on the areas of the building most exposed to the wind. Over several months, a large amount of data was collected, enabling us to record and correlate wind speed and noise levels measured in the structure. Thanks to our expertise, the data was processed to identify any cause-and-effect relationships.

In-depth analysis of the data enabled METRAVIB Engineering to conclude that there was no statistical correlation between wind speed and the noise level recorded in the building. This diagnosis enabled the builder to validate the acoustic viability of its privacy screens in accordance with METRAVIB Engineering’s design rules and to ensure an optimal quality of life for residents.

This type of service guarantees builders that their structural choices comply with environmental constraints and are sustainable.
